Privacy Policy
What we collect about you and your child, why, and the choices you have.
The short version
- We collect a parent's email address so we can send missions. We don't ask children for contact details.
- We store your child's first name, difficulty level and current mission so the emails greet them and send the right mission. Children never have an account or password.
- We don't sell personal information, show advertising, or market to children.
- You can ask to see, correct or delete what we hold at any time.
1. Who we are
Avero Academy (ABN 85 891 305 291) is based in South Australia. In this policy "we", "us" and "our" mean Avero Academy.
We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Because Avero Academy is made for children, we aim to collect the least information we can and to explain it plainly.
2. What we collect
From parents and guardians
- Email address, when you sign your child up for the free entrance exam or join a waitlist.
- Messages you send us, and the name and email address you send them from.
- Payment details, if you pay a deposit or buy a membership. Payments are processed by Stripe. We receive confirmation of the payment and your billing email, but never your full card number.
About your child
- First name, difficulty level and current mission. Stored by us alongside the parent's email address. We use them to greet your child in the mission emails and to know which mission comes next.
- Quiz and mission answers. Saved in the browser on your own device so the missions can pick up where your child left off.
We don't ask for a child's surname, date of birth, school, address, photo, or email address. Please don't enter them.
Collected automatically
- Mission activity data, such as which missions are started and finished and which difficulty level is in use. We use it to improve the missions, not to market to your child.
- Standard technical logs kept by our hosting provider, such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested.
3. How we use it
- To deliver the entrance exam and missions, including the daily mission emails sent to the parent and addressed to your child by first name.
- To set the right difficulty level and save your child's progress on your device.
- To answer your questions and deal with requests.
- To take payments and manage memberships.
- To understand how missions are used so we can fix and improve them.
- To tell parents about Avero Academy membership. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.
We don't sell personal information. We don't show third-party advertising. We don't send marketing to children or build profiles of children for marketing.
4. What's stored on your device
The missions use your browser's local storage to remember each child's name, level and progress. This stays on your device until you clear it.
To erase it, clear the site data for our website in your browser settings. Because we don't hold a copy of your child's progress, we can't restore it once it's cleared, and progress doesn't move between devices.
We don't use advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.
6. For kids: what Avero remembers about you
Hi, recruit. Here's what happens with your information.
- Avero remembers your first name, your year level and which missions you've finished. That's so Cal knows who's on duty and where you're up to.
- Your missions are saved on the device you're using. We also keep your first name, your level and which mission you're up to, so mission emails can say hello and send the right mission. It isn't posted anywhere and other players can't see it.
- We send mission emails to your parent or guardian, not to you.
- Never type your surname, your school, your address or a password into a mission. We'll never ask for them.
- If something worries you, tell a grown-up you trust. They can contact us.
7. Children and parental consent
Avero Academy is designed to be set up by a parent or guardian. You must be 18 or over to sign up, join a waitlist, or make a payment, and by signing your child up you confirm you are their parent or guardian and consent to the handling of information described here.
If you believe a child has given us personal information without a parent's involvement, contact us and we'll delete it.
8. How long we keep it and how we protect it
We keep a parent's email address and their child's first name, level and current mission while you're subscribed to our emails or hold a membership. If you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, we remove both from our records, keeping only what we need to honour the unsubscribe and to meet legal and tax obligations for any payments.
We protect information with access controls, encrypted connections and reputable providers. No online service can promise perfect security. If a data breach is likely to cause serious harm, we'll tell the people affected and the regulator as the law requires.
9. Your choices and rights
- See or correct the personal information we hold about you.
- Delete your information, including everything we hold about your child, and stop the emails.
- Unsubscribe using the link in any email.
Email privacy@averoacademy.com and we'll respond within 30 days. We may need to confirm you're the person the information belongs to.
10. Questions and complaints
Contact us first at privacy@averoacademy.com. We'll acknowledge your complaint promptly and aim to resolve it within 30 days.
If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
11. Changes to this policy
We'll update this policy when what we collect or how we use it changes, and change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll email parents on our list before it takes effect.
